The human heart and the energy of love

Did you know that the human heart creates an electromagnetic field greater than that generated by the human brain, in fact 5,000 times greater?  According to research by the Institute of Heartmath, this field can extend up to 8 feet outwards from our bodies.

Traditionally, philosophers and poets have referred to the heart as the seat of our emotions, a location in the body where we feel great pain or great joy.  In everyday language we refer to the heart using any number of expressions for example, ’speak from the heart’, ‘wear your heart on your sleeve’, ‘be open-hearted’.  Robert Louis Stevenson has been quoted as saying “Every heart that has beat strongly and cheerfully has left a hopeful impulse behind it in the world, and bettered the tradition of mankind.”

As we learn more about the human body and the electromagnetic fields that it generates, I believe we will be able to make conscious use of our heart energy to balance ourselves and influence others positively.  When giving an EMF Balancing Technique® session, practitioners are taught to radiate a number of energetic postures to assist the client in clearing and balancing their heart center, and radiating the energy of love more fully.  This creates peaceful feelings and relaxation for the client, and often emotional clearings and recalibrations.  In essence, the client will leave the session feeling differently than when they came in!

So how to increase a connection with the energy of love within the frame of a Personal Energy Practice?  One way to sense the energy of love is to think about a loved one, a child, or a favorite pet and notice how the heart area feels, both at the front of the body and at the back, in fact, 360 degrees all around the heart area.  We have an innate sense of how our heart ‘opens’ or ‘contracts’.  When we have a sense of the heart opening, this is how our particular frequency of heart energy is radiated outwards.

The heart itself can also be a great source of wisdom.  Henry Reed Ph. D., in his book The Intuitive Heart, describes an energy practice whereby we can connect more deeply with our own ‘inner guide’ or intuition through heart-based exercises.  One of his key discoveries whilst putting this book together, based on 20 years of research through workshops, reading and practice is that “…love and caring are a natural source of intuition.  Intuition is most effective when it comes from caring, from a sincere wish to make a heart connection, either with your own inner self or with another.”  Henry contends that it is the heart also which contains the key to our intuition.  It seems that Benjamin Franklin may have also made this discovery during his lifetime, he is quoted as saying “The heart of a fool is in his mouth, but the mouth of the wise man is in his heart.”

So as an extra tool in everyday life, consider becoming conscious of your heart area, and feel, sense, imagine or think about connecting your heart area to another person if you are in a position where you are being asked to give advice or support them in some way.

You can imagine a line connecting your hearts, visualise a figure-eight loop joining your hearts, sense a connection if you are a very body-based person, or say to yourself “I give intent to open my heart safely in order to assist this person”.  Notice what comes up for you in the form of memories, feelings and words, and if you can share safely and appropriately with the other person, then do so.

Many people use Chakra Balancing meditations (energy center mediations) to help balance their heart areas as well as the other energy centers in the body.  Personal Energy Practice for the heart area benefits yourself as well as others.  Remember your heart energy and find ways to tune into it, especially in stressful situations.  Often the answer has been in your heart all along!

Personal Energy Practice - setting personal boundaries using your energy field

I was watching Oprah this week, a security expert called Gavin de Becker was guesting.  He is an expert in personal security, initally for public figures…then recently thought that his approach could be useful for another group of people at risk from violence - women in abusive relationships.

He had brought a client with him, one of a group of women at risk that had inspired him to set up a new system called ‘Mosaic’,  a self-assessment tool to allow women at risk in an abusive relationship, or those who had left an abusive relationship, to develop an awareness of the risks to their personal safety from the existing or ex-relationship.

Gavin had bought a guest with him, a very brave lady who was lucky enough to be alive to tell her story.  On visiting her violent ex-husband to pick up their children as part of a joint custody agreement, he invited her into his house.  She thought this was odd, and had ‘an odd feeling’ about it, but entered the door.  Sadly, she was beaten, duct taped and put in a trash can packed with snow.  Her ex then packed her into the back of the truck, took the children with him, and drove across state lines to dump her inside a storage unit.  Somehow this lady was able to make a phone call using her cell phone (still in her back pocket), and was ultimately saved 20 hours later due to some excellent police work.

So, this may sound like an extreme story - and an incredibly sad one - to put out on a personal energy practice blog…but…a quote Gavin de Becker made really resonated with me and I had an immediate sense of how we can connect some useful lessons from this story to our own personal boundaries, energetically speaking.    He said that “In our culture, when men say ‘No’ they mean No, when women say ’No’ it’s a sign to start negotiating”.  A contentious statement, but one that bears a lot of truth.

In case of the lady that nearly died, because of the cultural consensus she allowed her personal boundaries to be crossed a number of times with this relationship despite a balanced upbringing at home.  For example, her husband hit her on the honeymoon over a small argument, and although her initial response was to call her parents and leave, she thought it through and didn’t act.  This continued throughout the marriage, until finally, with two children by her side, she realised it was time to leave.  Another comment from the show was interesting too - “We are the only animals on the planet that second-guess our own instincts”.  So for example, an antelope has a ‘funny feeling’ about a clump of bushes, and so doesn’t go there (a leopard is lurking), it doesn’t say to itself “Oh, I have a funny feeling…but I must be wrong….I’ll go there anyway!”

As somebody who regularly experiences energetic phenomena and believes that knowing myself as an energetic being is a useful practice, I have become increasingly aware of when my boundaries are being pushed, thrummed, resonated, stretched and (okay, I admit it) crossed!

When living in London as an 18 year old with a new job, I swiftly realised that my normal energetic posture from a small coastal UK town was not serving me well in the ‘big smoke’.   I was stared at, approached, and generally bothered on public transport by the local male population who ’sensed’ something different about me.  (By the way guys reading this, please avoid thinking that this is intended as a man-bashing post…I think men and women can learn a lot from personal boundary work to help us all evolve - but I am a woman so must speak from that experience).  So I started to notice (at a subconscious level) how other more ‘city type’ women were acting, and how to move from that space.  At that time, I had also just started to work with affirmations, so wrote a few and said them in my head whilst on public transport.  For example ‘I am safe and whole’.  ‘I am capable and independent and know where I’m going’.  ‘I attract only positive interactions with others’.  The energy of the words running through my brain started to shift my posture and attitude, and within a month or so, no more trouble.  As an added confidence booster, I took a course in self-defense at my workplace, that helped too.  :-))

So, from an Personal Energy Practice perspective, how can we know when someone else’s energy is crossing, or threatening to cross, our own personal boundaries?  From learning to become a practitioner of the EMF (ElectroMagnetic Field) Balancing Technique®, I was taught that the Universal Calibration lattice, or UCL® extends for 2 feet, or 24 inches, all around our bodies.  Feel, sense, imagine or think about this golden field extending all around your body and ask yourself the following questions:-

  • When this field is physically touched or breached by others….
  • How do you feel in your body when this happens to you, dependent on who the other person is?
  • Is there any sense of being hit, kicked or compressed in the gut?
  • Do you have a sense of a person’s energy strongly pushing upon you even if they’re further away?  (E.g. eye contact, feeling like someone is watching you and looking up to see that they are?  A sense that somebody is strongly present but the feeling is unpleasant, even if they’re not physically close or present?)
  • A sense that energy is moving over very personal areas of the body?
  • A sense of discomfort, pressure, suffocation or an immediate desire to leave the vicinity?
  • A feeling that something is ‘hooking’ into you?

From the perspective of personal safety, these are all key signs that something is up.  At this point, it’s best to act like an antelope and go with the gut - stay away from the bush at all costs!  A few years ago I was interviewing some people to clean my house before a house move, and they were a husband and wife couple.  As soon as I answered the door I literally felt assaulted or ‘kicked in the gut’ by the man’s energy (sorry again, guys, female perspective here!).  My oldest daughter, aged 2 at the time, immediately said “I don’t like that man, mommy” and hid behind me.  A voice in my head said ‘He’s casing the joint’ - by which I mean I felt like he was checking the place over to see if anything was worth stealing.  It was as if immediately the door opened, his energy came in, whizzed through the house and me, without being invited.  But being the ‘wise’ adult I stuffed my own senses down and invited them in (mustn’t be rude).  After an uncomfortable interview, they left, and the woman called me later.  She said “We didn’t get the job, did we?”  And then went on to say that many people mentioned how uncomfortable her husband’s energy made them, and how he needed to do something about it.

When in public places, consider what you are putting out there with your own personal energy.  It’s a conscious choice, and sometimes hard to do when we’re stressed and in a hurry, but it will make a difference.  IMHO so many people in our society are out of their bodies one way and other (cell phones, worries, distractions and possibly no experience of how a personal energy practice can help shift awareness).  Making shifts in yourself can definitely ready other people for change, and bring them back into their bodies.

As an individual energetic being on the road to a regular Personal Energy Practice, try this the next time you are in the Post Office line or at the grocery store.

Say to yourself ‘I give intent to know myself as an energetic being’.  Breathe deeply, and imagine your energy field extended around you up to 24 inches, or two feet away.  Give yourself some protection, surround yourself with an imaginary pink bubble, in my experience, this helps me to sense, but not take on, other people’s energies.  Notice what you sense, feel, think, imagine, see, or hear in your head.  Set a conscious intent to look through your eyes, not just be behind them.  This will also change your internal experience of the world.

There are many ways to manage personal boundaries and this is a huge subject for discussion.  As multi-dimensional, energetic beings, we must make daily and moment-by-moment decisions on how we manage our boundaries with others as appropriate.  As a first step on this journey, gaining an awareness of our own personal energetic boundaries helps us to know ourselves and others better, and to be aware when it safe to be open, and when it is appropriate to put those boundaries up.

Mom Power teamed with Reflexology Power - the power of Reflexology and how it can help parents, children and families

www.reflexologypower.com  sarah@newworldenergetics.com

Reflexology is a form of acupressure based on the principle that there are special places mapped out on the surfaces of the feet, hands and ears which relate to every organ, gland and system within the human body.It is performed by using thumb and finger techniques, called ‘thumb walking’.  A reflexologist will use these techniques and other massage-type relaxation techniques to apply gentle pressure and motion to these very specific mapped out points, called ‘reflexes’, hence the name - reflexology.  You may know some of this already, and you may have seen reflexology ‘maps’ online - you may even be the proud owner of a pair of those curious reflexology socks!  What you may not know is how useful reflexology is in everyday life, how you can apply easily it to yourself and help other family members, learn some true reported benefits of a session and how really, really good having a reflexology session can feel!

I didn’t realise that reflexology would be on my healing path until I was in my mid-thirties.  It was the summer of 1998 and I was in a beautiful pub in the South of England with an old friend of mine (I’m from the UK originally). A friend of hers wandered across the pub and almost immediately engaged me in a strange conversation. He said “You should do reflexology, you know, you’d be really good at it!” I was a little taken aback, but had heard a little about reflexology, so listened to what he had to say.  I had stayed over at my friends’ house, so the next morning we were relaxing over a cup of coffee when her friend appeared at the back door! He said “I hope you don’t think I’m forward, but I’ve brought this book I had as a gift.” I was surprised and delighted to receive such a spontaneous gift. When I got home, I spent some of the weekend leafing through the book, then added it to the bookshelf.  The book is called ‘Hand and Foot Reflexology, Do it Yourself Treatment and Rejuvenation’, by Roman P. Palma M.D. I have the book to this day.

A few months later I was suddenly struck with a terrible toothache.  It was the weekend and I had just moved to a new area, so there was no chance of finding a dentist in a hurry.  It was really agonizing toothache.  In desperation, I took down the reflexology book and worked the reflex point for the tooth in question (all over my right big toe, since the tooth was one of my lower front teeth).  The relief was almost immediate and lasted 3 days or so, long enough for me to get to the dentist and have the problem fixed.

It wasn’t until the summer of 2002 that I realized I needed the help of reflexology once again.  I was newly married and 3 months pregnant, living in Virginia Beach, VA whilst my husband was away for 6 months or so with the US Navy. Stress levels started to rise and my OB doctor noticed that my blood pressure was rising also. As an older mother (37 at the time) it was cause for some concern. I was determined to have a drug-free pregnancy and birth, so searched around for a non-invasive approach that could help me. Luckily, I was living close to the A.R.E. (Association for Research and Enlightenment).  They have a wonderful massotherapy school.  I engaged the services of the reflexology teacher and practitioner at the Cayce-Reilly School of Massotherapy there.  I had regular treatments right up until I had my first baby.  The reflexologist even came to the hospital after the birth to give me a treatment. The blood pressure issues disappeared, I avoided the scourge of swollen ankles and she incorporated a different form of acupressure work to help the baby come within a week of the due date, since my husband could only return from deployment during a two week window. As I had desired, I had a drug free labor and birth. I became so interested in the results of reflexology that I took two reflexology courses at the A.R.E. school whilst I was still pregnant.

Whilst my first child was still very young, we moved to Lemoore, CA, where my second child was born,  and then on to Southern MD. It took me 8 years to get the message from that guy in the pub (who was speaking on behalf of the universe, I suspect), but finally 9 years later I became a State Certified Reflexologist in the State of Maryland.  Since then I’ve had the opportunity to work with some wonderful clients using reflexology, and used this wonderful modality to take care of myself and my family.  I know I’ve been fortunate to have professional training through the Baltimore School of Reflexology in MD (thank you, Catherine, my teacher, you know who you are!).  However anyone can learn this skill in order to help their own health and the health of others.  I maintain that giving my children reflexology sessions when they’ve been sick with a virus or the ‘flu has helped any infections clear up more quickly.  My youngest will cheerfully stick her feet in the air in the hope that I will work them for her.  My oldest has already learnt some of the hand movements and knows that it can help her…she’s suffering from Spring allergies at the moment and a quick work of the sinus reflexes comforts her at bed time.

So how can you help yourself and your family easily?  Pick up a book on reflexology, there may even be one available to borrow at your local library.  Learn to work on your own hands as well as others’ feet (the Baltimore School in Southern MD now offers a hand reflexology certification).  The hands are easier to reach than the feet when helping yourself.  Hands can also be worked instead of feet should a person have foot problems which prevent healthy access.  Even if you don’t get all the techniques down initially, just work the areas required as best you can and notice the results.  Please also bear in mind that women in the first trimester of pregnancy, people taking blood thinners or having a history of blood clots, and those people with cracked skin and active fungal infections on their feet should avoid reflexology.  Working with your own family members’ hands and feet can be a fun and bonding experience.  And who knows, if you manage to stave off a cold or reduce allergy symptoms for yourself or others, you may be saving yourself a trip to the doctor’s office.  That reflexology book will have paid for itself already!

Dr Oz Mendendez, a top heart surgeon in the US and host of his own show on national television, has said in the past that the majority of his patients who come for heart surgery have a ‘reflexology type treatment’ before surgery, because he believes that the surgery goes better and the person recovers better.  If you need to find out more about the scientific confirmation of the practice of reflexology, check out the second link below.  If, like me, you know that having your feet or hands feels really, really, good, and has health benefits even simply from the power of touch, then go ahead and buy or borrow a book.  As my reflexology teacher says, people know it feels good, since once you begin practising, “the feet will rise to meet you”!

Synchronicity? - and how do we know we’re about to be “in the right place at the right time”?

sarah@newworldenergetics.com

What if you had window into an amazing time machine that would let you know - ahead of time - that some kind of opportunity for advancement, positive change or success was headed your way?  I bet that would sell as quickly as the Ipad appears to be selling right now. :-))

I don’t have an Ipad, but I do believe that with practice and focus there are ways we can use our personal energy and physical resources to open our minds to possibilities before they happen in ‘real time’ or ‘now time’.  I think something like the Ipad captures a person’s imagination because it allows you search for information in a new way, opens your brain to new channels and pathways, and opens your mind to new and different ways of completing tasks and achieving success.   It’s also very cool technology. :-))  It’s been my experience that this can also happen within the realms of personal development and use of personal energy in the energetic postures we set for ourselves.

About 12 years ago I had the opportunity to work with a great group of people and a masterful trainer called Joseph Riggio.  He specializes a form of personal development called the the Mythoself™ Process.  This process continues to be developed by Dr. Joseph Riggio and focuses upon activating two specific body-mind states - enabling the individual to learn how to oscillate between them in order to move forward on the personal journey, hero’s quest, or trajectory of intent.  Essentially put, how are we in our bodies and minds when we are at our best, or in the ‘flow’, having a perfect day, and having the perfect connection with all there is that is outside of ourselves, that which we consider sacred?  If we can rest in that place, being our essential self, then how could we shape our lives more effectively?

The series of courses I attended with Dr Joseph Riggio were interesting to me for a number of reasons.  The frame of the training was to learn the Process so that I could embody it and therefore help others over time.  The results of the training were long lasting, deep, and remain forever with me.  We worked on everything from learning to be in our bodies, rather than in our heads, learning much about human body language and how we arrange our conscious thought patterns as individuals.  All was amazing learning, but what still sticks with me to this day was the first process, originally known as ‘Exercise 1′, where we learnt to work with another person and open their minds to infinite possibilities.  It seemed to me that with an elegantly simple set of questions and approaches, anyone could respond in a few minutes and find themselves in a place where anything is possible.

This opening to infinite possibilities is a powerful mind set, stimulating our energy, causing excitement, idea generation and loss of restriction.  Problems seem to magically fall away, since they cannot even be generated in this place.  So how could a person begin to generate this state for themselves in their own Personal Energy Practice?  It does take work and granted it’s not always easy to begin with, but if you are attracted to thinking ‘outside of the box’ then this approach could be for you.  Simply think of a time when you had what you consider to be the ‘perfect day’.  Not so much what you did, but how you felt in your body and your mind, and how you acted and reacted throughout that day.  What were the factors that caused you to be in that ‘flow’ state, it doesn’t matter whether they were internal (caused by your own good mood) or external (caused by a stroke of luck or fun things happening around you).  How does your body and mind respond to these thoughts…which parts of your body relax when you recall these experiences, how do you breathe, move, speak?  I can guarantee that this is an energetic posture that will serve you well.

Increasingly when you open your mind and body to this energetic posture or state and to practising it on a regular basis, you will be contacting more of your own wholeness and completeness and become even more effective in the world.  One of the phrases used on the course stuck with me also, how to be at your best ‘in and through time’.  If you set the intent to be at your best when you wake up in the morning, the mind is already noticing and making contact with the energy charges of infinite possibilities that are a match for you throughout your day.  Synchronicities start to be noticed, you become aware of more opportunities and different ways to bring your ideas into reality throughout your day.  When you practice this technique regularly, you will begin to master what Joseph calls ‘your trajectory of intent’, that is, the most successful direction for your everyday life ‘in and through time’.  As you step forward on your own personal path of success, you begin to notice that your awareness can shift enough to notice useful information even before others notice it, opening your own personal window to the viewing and selection of infinite possibilities.

So how can you increasingly find yourself “in the right place at the right time” noticing events and potentials that serve you?  Wikipedia states that “Synchronicity is the experience of two or more events that are apparently causally unrelated occurring together in a meaningful manner. To count as synchronicity, the events should be unlikely to occur together by chance.”  I would contend that, as you practice the energetic posture of being at your best more and more, you will assign deeper interpretations and meanings to the ‘goings on’ around you in the world, noticing what will work for you the best and move in that direction.  This could be one interpretation of synchronicity.

‘Location, location, location’, realtors say…what if location affects our personal energy, too?

sarah@newworldenergetics.com

I’ve had the good fortune to live in 4 different states in the United States so far, during a 9 year period!  So as an energy sensitive person, whilst travelling from one place to the next, I began to consider how the energy of the earth in different geographical locations might affect our personal energy in general and myself specifically, if indeed we are all made of energy and all ’entangled’ as the new physics says.

Whilst considering this blog entry I also began thinking about our beautiful planet and how the huge electromagnetic field that it generates differs in character, strength and climate based on our location on the planet and our planet’s movement through its’ orbit around the Sun.  We have just moved through the Spring Equinox - defined by Wikipedia as - ”An equinox occurs twice a year, when the tilt of the Earth’s axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the Sun, the centre of the Sun being in the same plane as the Earth’s equator. The term equinox can also be used in a broader sense, meaning the date when such a passage happens. The name “equinox” is derived from the Latin aequus (equal) and nox (night), because around the equinox, the night and day are approximately equally long. It may be better understood to mean that latitudes +L and -L north and south of the Equator experience nights of equal length.”  So this is one of the times in our year where people all over the planet experience days and nights that are more similar in length…a form of balance, if you like! :-))  Certainly many of us in the Northern Hemisphere experience different feelings when we ‘know’ Spring is coming, due to the change in tilt of the planet towards the Sun.  Anyone who has children will probably confirm that they start to ‘quicken’, or somehow gain more energy as Spring begins and we head towards Summer.

Other environmental factors that may influence our personal energy and how well we function can be generated by the natural environment.  One of these is geopathic stress, where underground streams, minerals, fault lines and cavities distort the Earth’s electromagnetic field, creating weak electromagnetic distortions of their own which can unsettle our own electromagnetic systems.  Some countries, such as Britain, Poland and Germany are beginning to take geopathic stress and electromagnetic pollution very seriously, since several studies have concluded that repeated exposure to electromagnetic stress can disrupt our energy systems, ultimately causing sickness.  (Some examples of electromagnetic pollution  are - man-made electromagnetics, such as telephone towers, power lines, mobile phones, fuse boxes and computers.)  Tests are being developed to verify these effects further, age-old solutions include employing a ‘dowser’ or ‘radeithesist’, skilled energy practitioners who can use their sensitivity and metals rods to check for fault lines or areas than can cause sensitivity for people.  Interesting to consider!  Please enjoy reviewing some of the links at the bottom of this page if any of this resonates for you.

So in order to help us balance and redistribute our personal energy wisely when we consider the various factors of location, electromagnetic stress, electromagnetic pollution and personal energy distribution, how can we help ourselves?  This seems to be no mean feat!

What I would suggest is that it is worthwhile investing some energy (energy workers joke!) in learning energy balancing exercises and beginning a meditation practice.  That will help to balance personal energy issues.  Having moved from place to place, if you have noticed that your health changed or deteriorated in some way when you moved to a new location or new home, it might be worth doing something as simple as changing the location of your bed in your bedroom, or using a battery driven clock instead of keeping electronics by the bed.  Take a long walk around your living environment after a meditation or energy balancing session and see if you can ‘feel’ areas which seem lighter or brighter in some way to you.

One thing I have always done when we have moved house, is taken out a ‘Location Report’ from the Association of Research and Enlightment (A.R.E.) in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  They can produce an astrological location report based on your star sign (which let’s face it is charted from the locations of the planets in our solar system at your time of birth, all big electromagnetic bodies).  I have always found these reports enormously helpful in knowing what to expect of myself and my reaction when I move to a new location and am getting used to the new energetics there.  Quite often I’ve put the report away and then pulled it out before we leave to see what I can validate about my experience there.  It’s always been interesting and enlightening.

Once you start to focus your energies upon noticing what drains you in a location and what stimulates you in a location, you can start to move towards a place where you can give yourself what you need, energetically speaking.  Once you have mastered what you need energetically, I believe you can pretty much do anything you want to do.

I’ll leave you with the words of one energetic master (IMHO), Cesar Millan ‘The Dog Whisperer’, as he reviews a live show he gave to an audience in Birmingham, UK, recently and how he made the best use of his energy in a new location in order to put his work across.  So how did you think he masters all those dogs…it’s energy!  “Yesterdays show - I felt like I was romantizing them….it was questions and education, I felt this sense of romanticism, so I always let the energy take me, because that energy is what exists in that place, that’s why it’s so important to be instinctual because you don’t question what it is, you just become what it is, and so people feel that I know them, and they feel that they know me through television.  Just the fact that I became their energy and embrace the spirit of their land, I become one of them, so it makes it easier to deliver information.  I’m having a great time.”  What a way to honor a country and people, when we visit.  Notice the energy, and become a part of it.  Of course I maintain it was because he was drinking the tea and eating the fish and chips!!

When Does History Become HIStory, HERstory, YOURstory and MYstory?

I have just finished watching the first episode of a new series called “Who Do You Think You Are?”.  On NBC, it’s an adaptation of an award-winning British television documentary series where celebrities are given the resources to trace their own family trees back in time, as far as is possible given recorded information and DNA testing.

The first episode was filmed with US football legend Emmitt Smith, who was able to track his family tree back as far as Virginian slave owners living in Alabama, and his DNA testing led him as far back as the Benin Republic of South Africa, a country which was considered to be part of the original ’slave coast’ area.

For Emmitt Smith, this was at times a painful and emotional journey, yet ultimately fulfilling.  At the end of the programme he was discussing the experience of his journey and said “My personal story shed light on a whole lot of issues.  History is not history anymore, it’s really MYstory right now.”

From the perspective of a personal energy practice, I have come to experience that our history comprises a large part of who we are and what we are able to bring to the world in the present moment, whether we have become fully conscious of this or not.  A while back I connected with some people through a British ancestry web site, and discovered a whole host of Lawrences who had pretty much done a wide range of research on my behalf, and were interested to discover if my mother was the ‘Lawrence’ in the chain that they were looking for.  She was, and my mother and I were both interested to discover relatives we didn’t know we had, plus some interesting corrections to our family history.  For instance, my mother had long thought that her mother, my maternal grandmother, was called ‘Millie’ or ‘Millicent’, according to her wedding certificate.  It turned out that my grandmother’s name was actually ‘Amelia’, and that my grandfather had a stutter, and had spoken his new wife’s name to the registrar at the time, who had got it wrong!  More was learnt about the family than we had ever known before, and it really made us think.

So energetically, how is ‘the past’ or ‘our memories’ stored?  Neurolinguistic Programming, or NLP(TM) states that we recall memories using eye accessing cues, in that our eyes move to specific places in order to recall body states that activate specific memories from our neurons.  Try watching a friend or colleague sometime when they’re talking about different memories and watch where their eyes go, it’s really interesting!  Other research indicates that sound and smell can trigger old memories, like an old favorite record or the smell of fresh cut grass, for example.  The scientific theory behind this states that our limbic, or mid-brain, is our emotional center and activated via hearing or smell, so memories with a strong emotional content can be stored there.

From the perspective of the EMF Balancing Technique, our electromagnetic memories of this life, hereditary patterns and even past lives, if you resonate with that belief system, are stored in the three long informational fibers behind us, along with genetic traits, plus hidden talents and latent abilities.  In a number of phases of the technique, the back fibers are cleared, balanced and gauged (strengthened) so that memories or energetic events which may be holding us back (by holding too much of our energy and attention) can become resources for where we are in our life now, instead of anchors that hold us back, cause us pain, or distract us from the present moment.

So here’s a quick energy exercise that I learnt a while back to enable you to connect with your history in a new way.  If you know the names of your parents, grandparents and perhaps even your great-grandparents, you can say them in the form of an honoring affirmation - if it feels like a comfortable experience to undertake.  So, in my case I would say, I am Sarah, the daughter of Margaret, who is the daughter of Amelia, who is the daughter of Elizabeth.  Take a deep breath, connect with the fibers behind you either by thinking, feeling, sensing or imagining, and see what you notice.  Perhaps their stories are really also your stories, after all.

Clearing Emotional Blocks, Stepping Stones and the Alternative Medicine Wheel

I was chatting with a new friend last night about clearing emotional blocks, and how sometimes more than one energy modality is needed to bring that change about for a person.

If you are starting to hear people talk the new consciousness talk, the terms ‘emotional blocks’ and clearing will probably come up in the conversation.  So what are these blocks, really?  In my experience these blocks can manifest or make themselves known to you in a number of ways, from a literal physical ‘block’, perhaps the body locking up or freezing for no apparent reason, being unable to speak due to emotional overwhelm, conscious or unconscious avoidance of an issue that is related, even if you don’t think it is…an apparently casual conversation hitting a number of ‘buttons’ in your mind, a place or repeat experience ‘firing off’ some kind of unpleasant experience or memory.

Depending on the energy modality or therapeutic practice, these blocks can be explained in a number of ways.  We may perceive them as an interruption in our flow of energy through the body or the meridian system, or an area of the emotional body that has received trauma in the past, is still ‘tender’, and therefore protects itself by becoming numb and not feeling any further, perhaps a recursive thought loop that has been set up by the brain to avoid ‘going there’ and recalling that memory, place or time, or simply a conscious process whereby we choose not to deal with that thing, place, or circumstance, since we are busy with other things!

At the end of the day, I believe that the bodymind creates these blocks for our protection.  We already have to filter out so much from our energetic lens in order to cope with our thoughts, actions and emotions in the fast-paced modern world that to deal with everything in the present moment can feel completely overwhelming.  So when rested, ready and in gratitude, we can start the work on clearing the blocks we are ready to ‘let go’.  Perhaps if we were to work with the EMF Balancing Technique® we can learn how to turn those blocks in to stepping stones, in order to move forward with life and turn our experiences into a greater and greater golden column of wisdom, rather than experiences which hold us back.  Reflexology can help us to clear blocks that have become rooted in the physical body, such as tight muscles, sore joints and the restarting of the body’s energy flow and the reminder to simply ‘let go’ and relax.  Or we can use our own intuition, or inner wisdom, to redirect our energy, thoughts, actions and emotions past the release of the ‘block’ or ‘holding back’ to a place of new potentials and possibilities.

So when researching health modalities for yourself from the new energy, or new consciousness movement, be aware that sometimes you may need to move around the ‘Alternative Medicine Wheel’ in order to complete the shift you have chosen to make.  The Native American Medicine wheel symbolizes the individual journey each of us must take to find our own path.  It may be a useful analogy to apply to alternative or complementary energy medicine also.  As an example, the first time I decided to experience a physical cleanse, I used the ‘Master’ or ‘Lemonade Cleanse’ and enjoyed the results.  I felt more energetic and my skin improved.  However, the bladder reflex points on my feet turned into two little puffy, swollen circles.  A colleague mentioned to me that some of the physical clearing had shifted excess energy into those reflex points…I tried to clear them by working with reflexology, but they ‘wouldn’t’ go!  So then I took advice and used a homeopathic remedy for the kidneys and adrenals - ta da!  Success.

So, be open to shifting around that Alternative Medicine Wheel.  It just may be the way to put your best foot forward!

Do Complaints Drive Us Crazy?

Had my car serviced yesterday, and requested a 2.00pm pickup since I had the kids’ school run to do afterwards.  I arrived on the dot to discover my car wasn’t ready, half an hour later in the waiting room I explained the situation to an assistant, and she got things moving…so why the delay?

Well, a bar on the luggage rack had come loose during the detailing/waxing process and bounced down onto the bonnet/hood (Brit/American speak), scratching and denting it in two places.  My main concern (as the female assistant could plainly see) was that I was going to be late picking my girls up from school and so got things moving, giving me a replacement car for the interim.  The damage required that my car be taken to the paint shop, so would take a day or two.

I had spent 20 minutes or so whilst in the waiting room reading the first part of Seka Nikolic’s book, ‘You Can Heal Yourself’.  This was a book I had been waiting for and had just arrived in the mail.  So, I had been immersed in the world of one of the most powerful Bio-Energy healers on the planet, whilst the guy waiting to tell me that the front paintwork of my car had been trashed was probably putting off the moment and dreading it.  A hard thing to do!  I think I preferred my experience to his.

So, when finally explaining the situation he was somewhat breathless, and then I noticed that another coworker was standing by (which could have been his boss - not sure), and they were both apparently waiting for something.  So, I took a breath and then accepted the substitute vehicle.  I was so focused on being concerned that my kids would left waiting and getting upset, that it didn’t occur to me until afterwards that they were probably waiting for some kind of explosion of angry energy from me!

Will Bowen, in his book ‘Complaint Free Relationships’, suggests that when a customer care problem arises and you are the customer, it’s a good idea to start the conversation with the person helping using the words “You may not be aware of this but…”  It helps release the emotional and energetic charge for both of you dealing with the situation as something separate from your bodies, even if it’s an emotional issue for you.  Then, any emotion expressed is more likely to be dealt with in the energy of mutual respect.

So, while I signed off for my substitute car, I could sense that the guy had a relaxed somewhat, and he mentioned that they’d never had a luggage rail come off before (somehow the bolts were missing, who knows how).  My response was “That must have given you guys a fright, huh?”.  I saw the last of the tension leave him as he breathed out some more, and he agreed wholeheartedly!

So when working on your Personal Energy Practice, a great place to start noticing where your energy goes is when you are put in a position of being asked to complain.  The Western economy has a culture of ‘customer service’, which is a wonderful thing, an aspect of that however is that we are encouraged to complain even if only a few minutes of waiting is required and Customer Service Assistants are focused and fully trained in any number of ways to apologize for any lack of service.  What if you could shift this energetic exchange to one where the energy exchange between you is less awkward and ultimately pleasant?

In order to experience this for myself I took Will Bowen’s Complaint Free challenge 2 years ago, where I sent off for and wore the Complaint Free purple bracelet for 21 days without verbalising a complaint.  Granted, it took me 3 months to complete the challenge (if you complain, switch the bracelet to the other wrist and start over!), but I really enjoyed the energy that was released from going through this process.  I had an experience in Disneyland where it was very hot and we were in a food line, the line was taking a while and two people either side of me were complaining about the wait.  They asked me to comment on the situation, so I showed them the bracelet and said “Sorry, I can’t complain, I’m taking the challenge!”.  It was a very freeing feeling to avoid spending my energy that way, especially on a hot day.

So in your Personal Energy Practice, consider the nature and energy of complaining.  Would a few deep breaths enable you to move past a pre-programmed response to one where you can honor the person who has the role of helping you?  I can guarantee that they will feel the difference!

Introducing Yourself in a Whole New Way

Yesterday I was given the opportunity to introduce a group of people to the EMF Balancing Technique®.  Initially the agreement was to provide a short half-hour or 40 minute session to put across key concepts.

As it turned out, the energy within the group started to flow and it ended up being a 4 hour experience, allowing a short break for lunch!

It was a wonderful opportunity for me to embody what I have learnt so far, and to validate those learnings with people on similar journeys of personal development and growth.

The Group Introductory Session for EMF incorporates a short lecture and discussion of the nature of the UCL, or Universal Calibration Lattice, the aspect of our energy anatomy which is electromagnetic in nature, connecting all our physical energy centers, or chakras - and accessing our sympathetic and parasympathic nervous systems.  An Intro Session for Personal Experience is then given to a lucky volunteer, whilst other watch, experience and learn about the nature of this work.  Further discussion then follows.

This particular group enjoyed the lecture and demonstration so much, they asked me to continue and give the Phase XIII EMF Balancing Technique Session, The Way of the Evolutionary, to the group.  The Phase XIII session is both a beginning and an ending to the other 12 Phases of EMF and contains key points of focus relating to all the other Phases, so it’s somewhat like a ‘taster’ session.

The session went well, everyone really enjoyed the experience of knowing their own energy better.  The sessions were given to a group at the new Prairie Healing Center in Wichita, KS.  We are all working to raise awareness of the availability of this great location for people to experience alternative wellness options, from Classical Chinese Acupuncture through Zero Balancing, Reiki, EMF and Reflexology.  www.visitphc.com

How to commence your PEP (Personal Energy Practice)

What is a personal energy practice? (or PEP, if you like Three Letter Acronyms!).  From the frame of this blog it’s all about becoming aware of the energy you generate in the world as a physical, emotional, behaviourial and electromagnetically driven Human Energy Being (oh OK, then, HEB).

As a Human Energy Being, we drive immensely sophisticated, multi-faceted and multi-dimensional systems to move our energies in the directions we intend to go.  In other words, we digest and burn food, breathe and process air, encounter moment-by-moment realities and make moment-by-moment decisions which result in specific energetic postures, whether conscious or unconscious.  An energetic posture can also be understood as a ’state’ we find ourselves in, or an approach or direction we find ourselves taking - or intend ourselves to take - as the result of an external stimulus or an internal focus or response.  So what does all this have to do with a Personal Energy Practice?

I contend that regular Practice enables a person to move towards conscious awareness of their own energy management, and ultimately (it is hoped) mastery of the same!  This translates to becoming aware of our thoughts, actions, emotions and behaviours in a way that enables us to positively direct all of the above towards intended outcomes, instead of constantly finding ourselves in knee-jerk responses, unwanted and energy consuming unhelpful emotional states, and ineffective interactions with others that are no match for our goals.  And yet again for others, a Personal Energy Practice may take them to that place where they can identify those goals simply through embracing their own awareness that they have not idea what those goals are yet and that they need to commence the journey! :-))

So I would contend that the first step towards a Personal Energy Practice is to take time to become aware of the thoughts, emotions, actions and behaviours that no longer serve you, and notice where the energy goes.  More on this next time…in the mean time….if you’re interested in tools to assist in this approach to Personal Energy Practice, check out
